    The need for a civil law on domestic violence was identified from the experience gained through the provision of legal aid to women facing violence in intimate relationships. After nearly a decade of advocacy and consensus building by women’s groups across the country, the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence 2005, was finally brought into force on the 26th of October 2006.
